Hi,
welcome to my profile page. In the coming months I'll be adding more
content on this page to make it more interesting. For now, I wanted to
touch upon the reason for this reincarnation of
JB-105. When I
was growing up in a small town called Oxford, Massachusetts back in the
late 1970's, I would sit for hours in front of the radio listening to my
two favorite radio stations flipping back and forth between the them
like a ping pong game. The two stations that I became intrigued and
obsessed with were WPRO-FM and WPJB-FM both in the Providence, RI radio market. I would listen to the DJ's and think to myself
"How could anyone talk so fast, be able to play music at the same
time and sound so fantastic?". Both of these stations employed so many tremendous talents
that I couldn't possibly mention them all in this passage. One thing
for certain however is that these amazing personalities would certainly
be remembered for many years to come. Both of these stations played
similar popular music and were bursting at the seams with energy while
fighting head to head for the coveted #1 ratings spot. From these
early years I grew to love radio broadcasting with a passion unlike any
other job that I could ever imagine. The business of radio was the one
job that I NEEDED to pursue when I "grew up". Many years passed and
unfortunately so did the days of JB-105
(WPJB-FM), leaving PRO-FM as my favorite radio station of all time. I
still remember all of the personalities that I would listen to, day in
and day out on both of these great radio stations. More years passed
and I stumbled upon an incredible crossroad in my life and in my
broadcasting career; I was working at Sh-Booms in Providence, RI as the
house DJ one night back in the summer of 1996 and I ran into Davey
Morris who was working as the overnight/weekend disc jockey at the time
on 92 PRO FM and just happened to be doing a Pro-Fm Club Night. We
talked about radio much of the night and I was able to point out that I
had been in the business since 1988. He offered to relay my on-air demo
CD to his Program Director (Chris Hamilton) and also invited me to sit in on his show
one weekend afternoon. I was so ecstatic that I dropped off a tape the
very next day and sat in on his live show that forthcoming Saturday
afternoon. I had stepped into the biggest, most beautiful broadcast
studio I'd ever seen... The only studio that I'd truly dreamed of
working at for my entire life. As if the tour of the studio wasn't
enough, a few weeks passed and Tony Mascaro (the Music Director at the
time), contacted me and offered me a weekend on air position based on
the
demo tape that I'd submitted. I almost fell over with shock and my
adrenaline was through the roof ! WOW, I had made it to PRO-FM. I had
an incredible journey at PRO-FM and was fortunate to have to have worn
many hats. I had gotten to work in the Music Research department.. I
was an on air personality on weekends eventually graduating to full-time
overnights and then nights for a short time, and a fill in jock for just
about every show except mornings. While employed at PRO FM, I also
worked full-time in the Production Department making many of the
commercials that were played on the air at the time. In the Production
Department, I had the pleasure of working with the most interesting and
talented person that I've ever worked with in the business... a true
staple at WPRO; Giovanni (at the time, the Midday personality, Imaging
Director and Production Director for many years). His attention to
detail was incredible and his ability to make a piece of production come
to life was amazing. I was so fortunate to have learned so much from
him that I became a much better talent both on the air and in the
production room because of tight ship that he ran. There were also many
other notable people in which I learned so very much from at PRO-FM.
Unfortunately, back in 1999 my career at 92 PRO FM came to a screeching
halt due to an unforeseen decision and this became the 2nd worse day of
my life next to my my father's death. There hasn't been a day gone
by that I haven't thought about how much I enjoyed working at the Salty
Brine Broadcast Center on the Wampanoag Trail in East Providence, RI and
just how great I felt when I walked in there every day. Don't ever
take a dream for granted.. I've truly found that the old adage "You
don't know what you've got until it's gone." certainly has truth in
meaning and IT CAN happen to anyone. JB-105
however, is a celebration of the fantastic radio product that Providence
has had to offer in the past and the present which has become a major
part of my everyday life and possibly yours too. A station that
deserved to be revisited. This project is dedicated to my dad and
all of the great radio people that I've met along the way. Hopefully you will
enjoy JB-105
and more importantly remember some of the fantastic talents that will be
showcased "ON THE AIR" in the months to come.
